Roast Profile

We roast this Guatemala to bring forward its naturally rich nut and chocolate characteristics while maintaining a smooth, balanced finish.

The roast has been developed to create enough sweetness and body for espresso without pushing the coffee so far that its individual origin character disappears.

In the cup, expect strong roasted nut flavours supported by creamy milk chocolate, subtle caramel-like sweetness and a clean finish.

The body sits comfortably in the medium range, providing enough weight to feel satisfying without becoming overly heavy.

Its restrained acidity also makes it particularly approachable for coffee drinkers who enjoy traditional espresso flavours but still want the quality and character of a specialty single origin.

The result is a versatile coffee that works exceptionally well across espresso, flat whites, cappuccinos, lattes and long blacks.

Origin

Guatemala

Guatemala is one of Central America's most recognised specialty coffee-producing countries.

Its diverse growing environments, volcanic soils, elevation and established coffee-growing traditions allow the country to produce an enormous range of flavour profiles.

While some Guatemalan coffees are known for brighter fruit and citrus characteristics, others develop deeper profiles centred around chocolate, nuts, caramel and gentle sweetness.

This particular coffee was selected because of that richer side of Guatemalan coffee.

Rather than presenting an intensely fruity cup, it offers a smooth and familiar profile built around roasted nuts and milk chocolate; making it an excellent introduction to single-origin specialty coffee for drinkers who normally prefer traditional espresso flavours.

Processing

This Guatemala has been washed processed, a method known for producing clean, well-defined flavours and excellent clarity in the cup.

After harvesting, the coffee cherry is removed before the beans are fermented, thoroughly washed and carefully dried. This reduces some of the heavier fruit influence found in natural processing and allows the coffee’s inherent sweetness, structure and origin characteristics to come through more clearly.

For this particular Guatemala, the washed process helps create a clean, balanced cup with pronounced roasted nut flavours, milk chocolate sweetness and a smooth medium body.

Combined with our roast approach, the result is a coffee that feels rich and comforting without becoming heavy, with enough clarity to keep the finish clean and balanced.

It’s especially well suited to espresso and milk-based coffees, where the chocolate and nut characteristics remain strong and easy to identify.

Why Guatemalan Coffee?

Guatemala has built a strong reputation for producing coffees with excellent sweetness, structure and balance.

The country's diverse growing regions allow Guatemalan coffee to range from bright and fruit-forward through to rich profiles dominated by chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts.

That versatility is part of what makes Guatemala such an interesting coffee origin.

For espresso drinkers in particular, the richer styles of Guatemalan coffee can offer the familiarity of chocolate and nuts while still providing the clarity and individuality expected from specialty coffee.

Why We Chose This Guatemala

Not every specialty coffee needs to be floral, highly acidic or intensely fruity.

We selected this Guatemala because it delivers the type of flavour profile many coffee drinkers actually want to drink every day.

It's smooth, nutty, chocolatey and balanced.

The roasted nut character is immediately noticeable, while milk chocolate sweetness gives the coffee a softer, rounded finish.

Its medium body provides enough weight for espresso without becoming heavy, and its restrained acidity makes it particularly enjoyable in milk.

For anyone wanting to explore single-origin coffee without moving too far away from familiar espresso flavours, this is an excellent place to start.

Brewno Notes

What stood out to us most about this Guatemala was its strong nut character.

There is plenty of roasted-nut flavour upfront, followed by a softer milk chocolate sweetness and a smooth, rounded finish.

It's not a coffee that needs to overwhelm you with unusual flavours to be interesting.

Instead, it's balanced, comforting and incredibly easy to drink.

If you normally enjoy chocolate-forward Brazilian coffees but want to explore a different single origin, this Guatemala is a natural next step.

Brewing Guide

Espresso

18-20g coffee

40–45g yield

27–30 seconds

Use this as your starting recipe and adjust the grind to suit your machine, grinder and the age of the coffee.

Milk Drinks

This coffee is particularly well suited to milk.

The natural milk chocolate and roasted nut flavours become rich and creamy in a flat white, cappuccino or latte without being lost behind the milk.

For people who primarily drink milk-based espresso coffee, this is one of the easiest ways to enjoy the character of a single-origin coffee without sacrificing the familiar flavours you love.

Long Black

Brewed as a long black, the coffee's nut character becomes more pronounced while the milk chocolate sweetness provides balance.

Expect a smooth cup with enough body to remain satisfying without becoming overly intense.

A Single Origin for Everyday Coffee

Single-origin coffee doesn't have to mean unusual fruit flavours or high acidity.

This Guatemala demonstrates another side of specialty coffee.

It's a coffee that provides origin character, freshness and quality while still tasting familiar and approachable.

That makes it equally suitable for someone exploring specialty coffee for the first time or an experienced home barista looking for a dependable chocolate-and-nut-driven espresso.

Freshly Roasted in Brisbane

Your Guatemala Single Origin is roasted fresh by Brewno Specialty Coffee in Brisbane.

We roast in small batches with the aim of maintaining consistency while allowing the individual characteristics of the coffee to remain present in the cup.

Fresh roasting means you're able to experience the coffee as intended rather than purchasing beans that may have spent months sitting in warehouses or on supermarket shelves.

For the best experience, allow freshly roasted espresso coffee time to rest before brewing and continue adjusting your grind as the coffee ages.
